Success was had by all on May 14, 2009 at the Job Fair held at Southwest Georgia Technical College. The Thomasville Career Center and Cairo Career Center collaborated with Southwest Georgia Technical College to put together the 2009 Job Fair which drew a record crowd of over 700 job seekers.  Read more

On May 2, 2009, Thomas Chevrolet of Cairo and The Cairo/Grady County Employer Committee sponsored the 11th Annual Veterans Express Bus Golf Classic at the Cairo Country Club.  This tournament was a huge success, raising $4,800, according to tournament organizer Fred McCallum.Read more

Commissioner Michael Thurmond Announces 2009 Unemployment Tax Update

Commissioner Michael ThurmondI am please to announce that experience-rated Georgia employers with positive reserve accounts will benefit from $25million in unemployment insurance (UI) tax savings in 2009. The $25 million reduction will follow the $100 million tax cut provided in 2008, bringing total employer tax since 1999 to over $1.7 billion. This much needed tax relief will help protect existing jobs and stimulate new hiring. Read more

JOBS FOR GEORGIA GRADUATES 2009 MULTI-YEAR SEMINAR at Fort Valley State University New

The Georgia Department of Labor’s Jobs for Georgia Graduates Program hosted the Ninth Annual Training Seminar and Awards Luncheon on April 23, 2009 on the campus of Fort Valley State University.  Our theme was “Education: The Journey Never Ends.” Approximately 350 freshman, sophomores, and juniors attended representing thirteen high schools from throughout the state. The sophomores and juniors received valuable information during the career/college fair which convened that morning. Read more

 

SBA Drought Loans Available in Georgia

Assistance is available for nurseries and other small businesses affected by the drought. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced that federal disaster loans are available to small businesses and small agricultural cooperatives located in all Georgia counties as a result of damages and losses to crops caused by the recent drought.Read more
