2008 Veterans Express Bus Golf Tournament

What started out as a rainy day, ended up with blue skys and a successful golf tournament. Thanks to area sponsors and golfers, $5,400 was raised for the Veterans Express Bus. The Veterans Express Bus 10th Annual Golf Tournament was held Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the Cairo Country Club. Read more

$100 million unemployment insurance tax cut to continue in 2008 New

Commissioner Michael ThurmondGeorgia Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond announced that the $100 million unemployment insurance tax cut implemented in 2007 will be continued in 2008. Since 1999, Georgia employers have received over $1.7 billion in tax reductions through the efforts of the Georgia Department of Labor, working in partnership with Georgia employers. Read more

On December 4, 2007 during halftime at an Atlanta Hawks game, Josh Smith accompanied by his father Mr. Pete Smith, presented a check in the amount of $7,000.00 to Commissioner Thurmond and members of the Jobs for Georgia Graduates Program from Benjamin E. Mays High School. Smith indicated that he believed in education and giving back to his community.

SBA Drought Loans Available in Georgia

Assistance is available for nurseries and other small businesses affected by the drought. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced that federal disaster loans are available to small businesses and small agricultural cooperatives located in all Georgia counties as a result of damages and losses to crops caused by the recent drought.Read more
