JOBS FOR GEORGIA GRADUATES
MULTI-YEAR SEMINAR

The Georgia Department of Labor’s Jobs for Georgia Graduates Program hosted the Ninth Annual Training Seminar and Awards Luncheon on April 23, 2009 on the campus of Fort Valley State University.  Our theme was “Education: The Journey Never Ends.” Approximately 350 freshman, sophomores, and juniors attended representing thirteen high schools from throughout the state. The sophomores and juniors received valuable information during the career/college fair which convened that morning.  Workshops on customer service, preparing for college and facing our history and ourselves were also offered.  The students also took a walking tour of the campus.

The culminating event of the day was the Ninth Annual Awards Luncheon which began at noon.  Our keynote speaker was Miss Fort Valley State University, Shenoria Morgan.  Miss Morgan offered tips and advice on staying focused and how to achieve your goals. The Fort Valley State University Wildcat Force provided the entertainment which followed the keynote address. All of the students in the Multi-Year Program are given the assignment of completing a career manual which entails researching three careers of their choice and writing a 500 word essay.  The career manuals were judged on the local level prior to reaching the state. Ms. Ashley Howard served as the awards presenter for the Career Manual Competition.  Nine state winners were announced at the luncheon.   First, second and third place trophies were presented to the student winners.
