JOBS FOR GEORGIA GRADUATES ANNUAL TRAINING SEMINAR
The Georgia Department of Labor’s Jobs for Georgia Graduates Program hosted the Annual Training Seminar and Awards Luncheon on April 24, 2008 at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park, Georgia. Our theme was “JGG: Pathway to the Future.” Approximately 350 freshman, sophomores, and juniors attended representing eleven high schools from throughout the state. The sophomores and juniors received valuable information during the career/college fair which convened that morning with approximately twenty representatives from area colleges and universities as well as representatives from the Georgia Department of Labor and Chick fil A. Also, the students attended several workshops with topics such as: “Making Good Decisions: Learn It, Live It”, “Attitude Means Everything”, and “Senior-it is”.
The culminating event of the day was the Eighth Annual Awards Luncheon which began at noon. Our keynote speaker was Dr. Ralph Simpson, the Area Assistant Superintendent for the DeKalb County School System. Dr. Simpson has recently authored a book entitled, “From Remedial to Remarkable.” Students from Georgia School for the Deaf provided the entertainment which was as always very inspirational. Ms. Ashley Howard was the awards presenter for the Career Manual Competition. We want to acknowledge the hard work and effort of all of the students who completed a career manual. The students did a remarkable job researching three careers of their choice and writing a 500 word essay. Winners were selected on the 9th, 10th and 11th grade levels.
